Things look up for Chipping Norton astronomers

THE Moon, Jupiter and meteor showers were all glimpsed through telescopes at an event to mark national Moonwatch Week.

Chipping Norton Amateur Astronomy Group set up its equipment at the historic Rollright Stones and more than 50 people took the opportunity to stare skywards.

Chairman Robin Smitten said: “The weather didn’t look very good but we set some scopes up and within half an hour the Moon came out, Jupiter came out and the public came out.

“The Moon and Jupiter were the main things, but we also saw galaxies and nebulae. We are also in the peak of a meteor shower so we watched some spectacular meteors.”

Weather permitting, the group will be at the Rollright Stones every night this week for people to come along and look through the telescopes. For more details visit cnaag.com
