Flash protesters call for more action to tackle climate change

CLIMATE protesters synchronised their watches as a “wake-up call” to world leaders about global warming.

Campaigners gathered outside St Michael at the Northgate, in Cornmarket Street, Oxford, just after noon today for a “flash mob” and called for more action to tackle climate change.

They joined thousands of groups in more than 130 countries around the globe in sounding their alarms for the protest at the same time.

Mary Gill, of the Oxford branch of climate campaign group Avaaz, said: “The idea of a global climate wake-up call got going just a few weeks ago, and snowballed into a massive mobilisation of millions around the world who want leaders to do more to stop runaway climate change.

“Oxford residents took part to help show the huge level of public concern and to call on climate talks to move far and fast enough to deliver a deal that will avert climate catastrophe and unleash a new green economy.”

Film and photographs from the day’s event will be now be put together and sent to world leaders.

They will also be shown at the US premiere of climate film Age of Stupid, which is being shown in more than 400 theatres simultaneously. Audiences will be urged to petition their government.

The title of this article promised more than was delivered but since Blunkett's 2003 Act flashing is a 2 year job, rather than 3 months, so they were probably wise to keep their kit on

The article carefully avoids saying how many people took part in this "mass protest". From the photo, it looks like about 20...

Before the British taxpayer has to dig yet deeper to pay the developing World compensation for our alleged contribution to 'climate change', when are they going to pay US for overpopulating the planet?

The global population explosion is almost exclusively taking place in the Third World and the (unsustainable) growth in populations in Western Europe and the UK is due to migration from those Third World regions.

We can all do our bit to reduce, re-use and recycle, but this whole 'green' agenda is being hijacked by white middle class hand wringers to beat themselves up over turning on a lightbulb, and by politicians who see it as an ideal opportunity to further tax, monitor and control us.

Why don't these people tackle religions that encourage multiple wives/ children, foreign aid that bales out regions that have populations that cannot be supported by their natural resources or infrastructure, and our own Socialist Marxist government that pays the bone idle to churn out children?

Oh- all too un- PC- better get back to having picnics outside airports, dumping manure on celebrity lawns and the deadliest tools in the 'activists' arsenal: flash mobs, flap jacks and face painting...

Yes , you're right Grundon, but even this country can only sustain 17 million folk, so there's a long way to go

Grundon, despite the fact that carbon emissions per head are around 30 times higher in Europe then many African countries, how do you propose to influence population growth in another continent?

Don't vote for people like Dave who think overseas aid is a good idea.
