A candlelight vigil in protest over the recent presidential election in Iran is taking place in Oxford this evening.
Iranian Mahi Stokes, from Marston, is organising the vigil in Cornmarket, which she said was one of dozens happening in cities across the country and world today.
It starts at 7pm.
She said: “The purpose of the vigil is to publicise the violation of human rights in Iran and the need for a proper election.”
Hundreds of Iranians were arrested during protests in the wake of the election in June, which saw Mahmoud Ahmadinejad returned to power.
Two Iranian employees of the British and French embassies in Tehran and a French teacher are among a group currently on trial after the disputed poll.
They stand accused of acting against Iran’s national security by taking part in the protests and spying.
