'Peers School dumped special needs pupils on me'

A TEACHER at Peers School in Littlemore, Oxford, said she was given an “unreasonable” number of special needs children — and told to “get on with it”, a hearing was told.

Denise McKillop, who used to teach at the school, is accused of serious professional incompetence.

Today, she told a hearing she felt let down by school management. Mrs McKillop allegedly failed to meet required standards in classroom management while teaching in the humanities department.

The teacher, who worked at Peers — now the Oxford Academy — for five years, told the General Teaching Council that in her last school year of 2006/07 her classroom lists “showed a high level — an unreasonable level — of special needs children in each classroom”.

Allegations of incompetence were made against her, but she said senior management ignored her pleas for help. Representing herself at the hearing in Birmingham, Mrs McKillop said: “While Ofsted were on school premises ... management decided to remove disruptive students. A number of those children taken off premises during the Ofsted inspection were students I complained about.”

Mrs McKillop said she received complaints from concerned parents about disruptive students and claimed two parents were planning to remove their children from Peers.

The hearing continues.

Not much has changed at the so called Academy now, there are still teachers there that think they know best and talk down to the children, still no parents forum set up on there site after a full term , I wander why ? The school is no better at the moment and teachers are still coming and going..

She was the biggest bully at Peers School, blaming the students for the fact that she was the worst teacher in the history of the School is a joke!

Why is it these days that its never the childrens fault? I don't know the case so I guess I am talking a little more generally, but I used to teach myself and the Children all had, disorders or syndromes. The biggest problem is we have created a SEN (Special Educational Needs) culture that takes the responsibilty for their actions away from the Children.

When I was at school if you were naughty, you had to explain why, without saying you had ADHD or whatever.

Like I said I don't know about this case but I do know about Teaching in general and the problem is the Children KNOW they have the power.

The above comments are sometimes right but when a teacher bullies children that are behaving themselves because they are an easier target than the naughty ones then she should rightly be held accountable, which is what has happened as I said before the worst teacher in history!!
