A sushi bar in East Oxford has been closed by environmental health officers after two people became ill after eating there, it emerged today.

The Oisi Master Sushi Bar in St Clement’s Street was closed on May 22 after the Health Protection Agency notified the city council that there were two cases of food poisoning linked to the restaurant.

One of the two people needed hospital treatment, according to a statement from the council, which revealed that magistrates issued an order on Monday confirming the closure of the sushi bar.

Ian Wright, the council’s health development services manager, said: “We were satisified there was an imminent risk of injury to health, so we served an emergency prohibition later that night which closed the restaurant.

“We then had to apply to the court for an order to confirm our actions and the magistrates agreed with us that the restaurant should stay closed.”

The council is continuing its investigation into the incident.
