GENERAL ELECTION: Miffed by boundary changes

SOME Oxfordshire householders may find themselves casting a vote in a different constituency, as boundary changes come into force for the first time.

Douglas Smith and his wife Margaret are staunch Conservatives from Begbroke, supporting high-profile Tory candidates in the Witney constituency such as Douglas Hurd and David Cameron.

But they were stunned to find they are now living in Oxford West & Abingdon.

A Boundary Commission spokesman said individual households were not notified of changes, but said notices were placed in newspapers in 2004.

This proves how important it is to buy and read your local newspaper - not just run to them when you realise too late that you should have moved house to stay with your party.

Pardon me, but there IS a Conservative candidate in Oxford West and Abingdon too. Please feel free to vote for her - or do you only bother to vote if it's for a 'high profile candidate'?

No I wont be voting for her if she was the only person on the ballot form.

They can still vote Conservative, it's just unlikely to have any effect. Seems they're in a quandary - if they want their vote to count they need electoral reform, which presumably they don't agree with!
