Heavy rain in Oxford has led to the closure of Peers School in Littlemore.

About 500 children were sent home from the secondary school at 12.30pm as it was feared that pupils would have difficulty getting home as today's heavy rain is expected to continue until at least 3pm.

However, a GCSE history exam to be held at the school this afternoon will still take place.

Two Oxfordshire rivers, the Ray and the Windrush, have now been put on Flood Watch, meaning flooding of low-lying land and roads is expected.

About 30mm of rain has fallen in parts of the county so far.

A small part of the Thames towpath is under water at the back of the Osney Mead industrial estate in Oxford.
