SUPERHEROES, Power Rangers, apes and dinosaur handlers will take on a massive road trip from Blenheim Palace to the French Coast.

The Twin Town Challenge 2018 will see 100 cars – all based on popular films – drive from Oxfordshire to Witney’s twin town of Le Touquet to raise cash for charity.

The teams, many of which represent businesses from across the county, have truly risen to the creative challenge, producing a dazzling array of designer vehicles.

Former Business Person of the Year Andrew Hammond, chief executive of Oxford Products, enjoyed the event so much in 2016 that his company will return to Le Touquet with three teams.

A vibrant mix of different film-references, the car designs include Star Wars and Spider Man and the team themselves will don ape costumes.

Mr Hammond said: "We did it in 2016 as a family group, because it is a family business. But it was so amazing that we felt like we missed an opportunity for team building.

"This time we have 12 people in total. A lot of the enjoyment is in getting to know everyone else on the trip. You become like one massive family.

"And the people in Le Touquet really embrace everybody. You feel exceptionally welcome."

Lizzi Hamill, of First Sight Media, which will film the event, talked about the amount of effort that went into creating a near-perfect replica of a Jeep from Jurassic Park.

She said: "It was sheer elbow grease. There were many nights that I didn't go to bed because I was putting vinyl on the car.

"I would watch Jurassic Park and use freeze-frame so I could make sure everything was as near to the film as I could get it."

Ms Hammill, who will drive for Team Dino Mite, said the event looked 'crazy and chaotic' and that the company would have to try to figure out the best way to capture it on film.

All of those taking part praised the charity at the heart of the event.

This year, the bi-annual Twin Town hopes to raise £500,000 for Charlbury-based disability charity SpecialEffect.

The charity modifies computer equipment to enable disabled people to play video games.

Founder of SpecialEffect Dr Mick Donegan spoke to the Oxford Mail about the special challenge.

He said: “For me, we put the fun in to fundraising. If we’re involved in an event we always try to help make it something people enjoy taking part in and supporting.

“In terms of this event it’s all down to Brendon Cross and STL Communications and we’re just lucky to benefit from it.

“I think our cause is one a lot of people can relate to because we help people with conditions that could affect anybody.”
