DISTRICT councillor and former president of Kidlington Bowls Club John Wyse has died, aged 77.
Mr Wyse, of Chorefields, who represented Kidlington North on Cherwell District Council, passed away after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
A father-of-three and grandfather-of-two, Mr Wyse was born in Ireland, in 1932. His parents moved to England when he was aged two and came to Thame.
In 1954 he went to work at Morris Motors in Cowley where he stayed for the 26 years, first as a line worker and then as shop steward and foreman.
He later worked at Oxford University’s department of zoology, where he remained until he retired in 1998.
In Thame, Mr Wyse became an altar server and master of ceremonies at St Joseph’s Church, where he married Daphne in 1957.
When the family moved to Kidlington, he became a parish councillor before being elected to Cherwell District Council, and became a governor at Gosford Hill School.
Later in his life he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, Lucy and Niamh. He died on May 11.
