Sally Mitcham was baptised not in a church, but in a pub in 1976.
She was the four-week-old daughter of Robert and Patricia Mitcham, who ran the Red Lion. Mrs Mitcham said: “I thought it was a good idea as she will be brought up here.”
The ceremony was conducted by the Rev Bruce Findlow, principal of Manchester College, Oxford. He is seen holding Sally, watched by godmother Mrs B Mortonson and Mr and Mrs Mitcham on the right.
The middle picture was taken in 1963 at the village soap factory and shows Mrs S Brain slicing blocks of soap in the cutting department.
In the bottom picture, Gladys Turner is seen on duty as the crossing keeper on the Oxford-Bicester railway line in 1972. The line had closed to passenger trains in 1968, but remained open for freight.
