The changing face of DIDCOT
12:00pm Monday 2nd April 2012 in Memory Lane By John Chipperfield
The Marlborough Club celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1978 with a week of activities, including a tramps’ ball, party night, a yard of ale contest and a disco.
Pictured top are, left to right, Ann Thomas, who was chosen at Miss Marlborough Club by a panel of judges, founder member Sam Broom and president Bill Lawrence.
The town’s dirtiest streets sparkled in 1989 after a successful litter pick by members of the Didcot Diamonds marching band. Jennifer Harvey and Sarah Evans, both 10, are seen in the picture with the rubbish they collected.
The last picture shows the team from Didcot Girls’ School, which won the girls’ freestyle relay at the Oxford and District Schools’ senior swimming gala in 1962.
Can anyone tell us their names?
