MR K M Balmforth, of Tyrell’s Way, received the cup for the best council estate garden in the village in 1965 for the third time in five years. He is seen in the first picture receiving his award from the donor, Mrs G L Armitage.
Four employees of ARC Construction were preparing to paddle round a lake in a bath tub in the National Bath Tub Championships in 1984. Clive Barnaby-Manners, Hayley Benzie (with the watering can), Kevin Bailey and Tobin Layner, in the second picture, were looking forward to a wet and wonderful time.

The third picture was taken in 1970 to illustrate a claim by the vicar, the Rev George Jager, that some signs in the village were “garish, evil, rude, deplorable and bad mannered”.
