JESSE Merritt’s green fingers earned him four trophies at Cowley Conservative Club’s annual horticultural show in 1964.
He is seen on the right, receiving one of them from club president Reg Smith.
Mr Merritt left the opposition standing, winning all four principal cups – for the best exhibit in the show, and the best exhibits in the fruit, flower and vegetable sections.
There were nearly 300 entries that year and judges described the standard as very high.
