The changing face of Clifton Hampden


ALL 26 pupils at the village schooltook part in a production of Rumpelstiltskin in 1981. Headteacher Edwin Slight sent out invitations to every pensioner in the village inviting them to the school to see the children perform. One scene is shown in the picture.

The Barley Mow pub was named pub of the year in 1978 in a competition run by Babycham and the Sunday People. Chris and John Brinkman, who ran the pub, are shown showing off their prize.

Children who arrived at the village school for the last day of term in March 1959 found the building damaged by fire. A stove had set floorboards alight, damaging the classroom and its roof. Pupils are seen looking at a pile of burned books.
