WE HAVE published pictures of some of the cast – now here is a picture of ALL the cast.
These are the girls who performed The Rebel Maid at the Central Girls’ School in Oxford in July 1950.
The picture comes from Iris Alcock who, as Iris Cox, was leader of the fishermen in the show.
She writes: “My father showed me how to make a net (just the basic knotting with the tools) and he had hoped I would do it on stage, so he was a bit put out because I just held them.
“I suppose I didn’t have much time to demonstrate and sing Around the Shores of England, etc, at the same time.”
Mrs Alcock, who lives in Birkdale, Merseyside, was prompted to write in after a school friend sent her a copy of our earlier article about the production (Memory Lane, April 6).
She has supplied all the names of the cast, with their years.
As we recalled, the production ran for two nights at the Wesley Memorial Church hall, just yards from the school in New Inn Hall Street.
Girls from the school filled all the parts, male and female – their teachers would no doubt have frowned at any suggestion of recruiting boys!
Keep your memories of the school rolling in.
