AN OXFORD dance school celebrated a silver milestone in showbusiness in January 1981 with a pantomime performance of Hansel and Gretel.

It was the 25th production by the Jackie Bebbington School of Dance – based at the Rose Hill Community Centre – which had staged its annual shows for years to raise funds for local charities.

In 1981 the school's 101 pupils, some of whom are pictured above, once again trod the boards to raise money for welfare work at the community centre.

The show was written and choreographed by Wendy Bebbington, who had taken over the school 26 years prior, and starred 12-year-old Lisa Mansell as Hansel and 10-year-old Kim Jones as Gretel.

Ms Bebbington said: "We are delighted at the response to the show. Mothers of the dancers have been marvellous - they made costumes for the cast."
