FOLLOWING your pictures of the final pupils and teachers of the City of Oxford High School before the merger with Southfield Grammar School (Memory Lane, June 30, July 18 and August 1), I enclose a photograph of the first rugby team to represent Oxford Old Boys.

The team was formed from the Old Oxford Citizens – old boys from the High School – and the Old Southfieldians.

The photograph is dated September 14, 1963, three years before the schools merged on the Southfield site off Glanville Road, East Oxford.

It was given to my husband, the late Aubrey John, with many more photographs by the Oxford Mail rugby correspondent, Ron Grimshaw, The game was against the Oxford Thursday Nomads and the Old Boys lost, but I don’t know the score. I think the late Charlie Ede ran the Oxford Thursday Nomads.
