IT WAS the end of an era for these masters, pupils and administrative staff.

The City of Oxford High School was closing after 85 years on the site at the corner of George Street and New Inn Hall Street.

Efforts had been made for many years to find a less cramped site for the school and, after much delay, the move finally took place in 1966.

The school merged with Oxford’s other boys’ grammar school, Southfield, on the Southfield site off Glanville Road, East Oxford.

Above is the third and final part of a panoramic picture taken at the school before closure.

It comes from former pupil David Franklin, of Earl Stonham, Suffolk.
