I WORKED as a motor mechanic in the garage at the Pressed Steel, Cowley, for more than 30 years.
When I saw the photograph of the Leyland fire engine (Memory Lane, June 13), it brought memories of the 1970s when I completely overhauled its engine. I then had to drive it 150 miles over a period of three days to “run it in” before it was ready to be put to work.
My foreman at the time was Don Evans, who was an officer in the Pressed Steel fire brigade. Happy days!
