OXFORD’S oldest twin city link, with its Dutch partner, Leiden, is 70 years old on Good Friday.
The friendship link was formed at a meeting in what is now the Plowman Room at Oxford Town Hall on March 25, 1946 as Europe united in peace after the Second World War.
Since then, thousands of people have crossed the North Sea to take part in exchanges.
This picture was taken in 1992 when the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, Alan and Diana Pope, hosted a civic reception and party at the Town Hall.
The 100 Dutch visitors that year included women footballers, businesswomen, philatelists, football referees, snooker and table tennis players, photographers and a choir and orchestra, most of them hosted by local families.
This year’s celebration will include an Alice weekend in Oxford from July 1-4 and the visit of two Leiden brass bands the following weekend. Details of how to get involved are on the link website at oxford-leiden.org.uk
