RESIDENTS in a part of Barton Estate, Headington, complained that a council housing development was causing them danger and worry in November 1974.
Heavy lorries working on a site on the estate were churning up a recreation ground and forced people to walk in the road, they said.
Jeff Gulliford, who lived next to the development taking place on both sides of Stowford Road, said the pavements in the road had become covered in mud.
The recreation ground could no longer be used by children, and his wife Shelagh could not push the pram over it when walking her dog.
She said: "What bugs us is that it is a council recreation ground, and a council development."
Mr Gulliford added that the whole problem was unnecessary, as he said lorries could be washed down to avoid dropping mud.
And Stowford Road could be used to give access to the houses, rather than use the recreation ground.
