PUPILS at Crowmarsh Gifford primary school didn’t need telling twice that it was a ‘non-uniform’ day.
Usual school dress was discarded and replaced by casual wear – and in some cases, by weird and wonderful outfits.
There was an added incentive to dress down – those who turned up in school uniform were fined 50p.
The day in 1986, which ended with £40 in the kitty for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, was marred by a break-in at the school.
Thieves stole between £20 and £30, but not the money the children had raised.
