THE Oxfordshire Thursday Football League provided sport for those who, because of work and other commitments, couldn’t play on Saturdays.
Among the teams were Oxford Post Office, pictured when they reached the Tee Bee Cup final against Old Corinthians on the Osberton Radiators ground in North Oxford in 1970.
We’re not sure from the expressions on the players’ faces whether they won or lost!
The players are, back row, left to right, R Robson, A Cook, A Major, M Allday, R Hackins, B Groves, and front row, J Thomas, R Davies, B Haynes, R Jones, A Tucker and A Bye.
The Thursday League, which began in 1904 and in its heyday ran three divisions, had teams of railwaymen, factory workers, busmen, policemen and soldiers from local Army bases. It was wound in 1976 when the number of teams dwindled.
