IT WAS a study in concentration as these young musicians did their best to please the conductor.

They were members of the Oxfordshire Central Music School who were performing at an open day at Cheney School, Oxford, in 1970.

Parents had been invited along to see how much progress they had been making at the school.

At that time, new methods of introducing young people to music had been introduced.

The philosophy of “make music” was paying off, with Cherwell School, Oxford, and Drayton Hall, Banbury, being chosen to take part in a pioneering project sponsored by the Schools’ Council.
