THE Oxford Mail published the picture, right, in 1979 of the 10th Oxford Scouts and the Wallingford detachment of the Red Cross on a long-distance walk.

They were setting off from Marston with a trek-cart and covered 20 miles to Heythrop Park for a weekend camp.

After a seven-hour trek and a night under canvas, the Scouts made the return journey on Sunday.

My question is – do you think this journey could be taken today?

The route was Marston Road, Marsh Lane, A40 Oxford Bypass, Cutteslowe, Kidlington, Yarnton, Woodstock, National Westminster Training College at Enstone.

We had few traffic jams in 1979.
