I WAS interested to read your article about the railway from Banbury to Verney Junction, where it joined the Oxford-Bletchley line (Memory Lane, September 14).

I thought your readers might like to see a picture I took recently of the old Verney Junction station, near Buckingham.

Contractors have been working to clear 40 years of vegetation growth from the track. Since the work was done, weeds have started to grow back, but you can still see the old platform and the one surviving track.

As you reported, this will be the route of the East-West line which is to be restored in the not-too-distant future.

I understand there won’t be a station at Verney Junction, but one will be rebuilt at nearby Winslow.

People in the area are looking forward to getting the railway back, but inevitably, some are not so keen – they are worried about noise and vibration invading their homes. The answer is don’t buy a home near a railway line, even if it has been closed for 40-odd years!
