The photograph of pupils at Salesian College, Oxford (Memory Lane, July 20), brought back memories of my time there.
I left in the summer of 1944 so the lads in the photograph were not ones I knew.
The master, though, I do remember. He was Father Thomas Jennings.
He was in charge of physical training during my time there and he was also very keen on getting boys to take up boxing.
In the write-up, Pat Duffy was mentioned and he and I go back a very long way.
We started at primary school together in London in the 1930s and have been friends ever since.
We were billeted together at a house in Cowley for several years during the war while we were attending the college.
I attach a photograph taken a few years earlier in 1944.
