These workers at Pressed Steel were celebrating a quarter of a century with the company.
They had started work at Cowley in 1937 and had become members of the 25 Year Club in 1962.
The picture was taken at a dinner to welcome them to the club at the Randolph Hotel in Oxford in early 1963.
Our interest in the 1963 dinner was sparked by Mike Spencer, of Norwich, who bought a watch inscribed JE Nelson, Pressed Steel Company, 1937-1962, at a Norwich jewellery shop (Memory Lane, January 12).
We have since been trying to find out more about J E Nelson, who would have received the watch at the 1963 dinner.
The picture has been sent in anonymously, so we don’t know the names of any of the eight men at the table.
Could JE Nelson be among them? Can anyone identify the eight men? And will the mystery reader reveal themselves for readers?
