The Chamber of Commerce held its first trade fair in 1981, with 40 stalls to stimulate interest in Didcot shops. Mayor Len Longshaw is seen cutting the tape to open the fair at the new Civic Centre.
Andrew Gunning and Nicholas Tovey, dressed as the Queen and Prince Philip, won first prize in the fancy dress contest at Didcot Hospital fete in 1977. The fete attracted 3,000 people and raised £1,850 for hospital funds.
Didcot Music School, where children learned to play musical instruments, was given £500 by the Central Electricity Generating Board in 1987 to encourage more youngsters. Norman Holland, manager of Didcot Power Station, is seen being given a violin lesson by pupils Claire Gunson, eight, and Jamie Swift, 10.
