With the aid of the parish magazine, I can give you more information about the walk to raise money for a new boiler for Holy Trinity Church at Headington Quarry, Oxford (Memory Lane, March 2).

The date was Saturday, May 10, 1975, and the names of those who took part were Andrew Baker, aged 10, John Baker, Felicity and Helen Berryman, Bill Berryman, Edith Clift, Alan Day, Christopher Headington, Jonathan Norgett, Leslie Paxford, Joan and Judith Snowdon, Valerie Weaverling, Adrian Wood and Judith Young.

The walk started with the tolling of the church bell at 8am when the walkers were fortified on their way with the short prayer of the Itinerium by the vicar, Father Head. All completed the course, raising £170.

A dancing display by John Padbury and his School of Dancing in Quarry Village Hall raised £34.

Donations and a jumble sale by the Mothers’ Union completed the boiler fund, amounting to £511 in three months.
