DIDCOT’S dirtiest streets sparkled after a successful litter pick by members of Didcot Diamonds’ marching band.
About 25 children walked through Broadway and other litter-strewn streets in 1989 picking up rubbish.
At the same time, they invited passersby to make a donation to their fund for trumpets and drumsticks, and took names of boys and girls eager to join the band.
The newly-formed band had already attracted 100 potential members and expected as many as 200 to show interest before rehearsals began a few months later.
