FORMER residents of an Oxford street gathered to relive memories of their childhoods 60 years ago.

Former neighbours in Hugh Allen Crescent, New Marston, were accompanied by spouses and friends at an evening reunion.

Some hadn’t seen each other since they played together in the street and in their homes in the 1950s.

The crescent, built in the late 1930s, is named after Sir Hugh Allen, Professor of Music at Oxford University from 1918 to 1946 and conductor of the Oxford Bach Choir from 1907 to 1920.

He was said to be “an inspiring influence especially among young people who sought to spread the love of music and teach people to make music”.
