- Main picture: Children gained an early appreciation of rhythm and rhyme at ‘Music with Mums’ sessions at the village hall in 1983. Mums were invited to join in as the youngsters sang the Grand Old Duke of York, accompanied by the clatter of saucepan lids and the rattle of plastic bottles with dried peas inside.
- Above, a fancy dress walk in 1985 produced a number of wacky entries, including John Hatch and daughter Rebecca as poacher and his catch.

Above, the village marked 25 years of Scouting with the opening of a new Scout headquarters in 1986. Captain Herbert Layman, who helped set up the first troop, was invited back to open the building.
