THE Plough Inn had its own Rogues’ Gallery in 1972 when artist Yvonne Winkfield sketched portraits of regulars and displayed them on the pub walls. Miss Winkfield is seen in the centre of the picture immediately below showing the drawings to, left to right, Bob Clements, Joan Townsend, Captain Van Burton, Jean More and landlord Les Townsend.

The village won its fourth award in the Oxfordshire Best Kept Village competition in 1984. Judges praised it for its lack of litter and well-kept noticeboards, village green and allotments. Hoisting the award into place in the middle picture are, left to right, Paul Wooldridge, of Hall’s brewery, Sir Ashley Ponsonby, the Lord Lieutenant, Tony Bingham and Graham Soame, from the parish council.

Members of a new ladies’ social club at the Dog and Partridge pub raised £103 for a chairmobile for the handicapped in 1973. Trying it out in the bottom picture is Pam Turvy, watched by, left to right, Edie Morgan, Doreen Coombes, Sylvia Webb and Joyce Murray.
