TODAY’S Badvent pair are wanted by police after mobile phones and purses were stolen from Oxford city centre pubs.

The suspects were captured on CCTV and they have now found themselves revealed behind door 17 of our Badvent calendar.

The Oxford Mail and Thames Valley Police are publishing the faces of wanted suspects in a bid to get them to a police station by the end of the year.

The Christmas campaign has so far seen four men arrested and readers come forward with information on another four seasonal suspects.

On Wednesday, December 5, two people entered The Four Candles pub in George Street at about 6.30pm for what police call “bag dipping”.

An 19-year-old woman, who was sitting at a table with her handbag on the floor behind her, later noticed her mobile phone had gone.

CCTV cameras picked up a man sitting behind the victim and acting suspiciously near her bag with his coat, a police spokesman said.

The man moved to sit behind another woman who also later realised her purse had gone.

On the same night, a handbag was stolen from O’Neills in George Street and a mobile phone was pinched from a table at the Far From the Madding Crowd pub in Friars Entry..

Insp Richard Pickering said: “We want to remind people to be careful when they are out celebrating at this time of year.

“Unfortunately while for most of us, Christmas is a time of giving, for others it is a time of taking.

“When out celebrating, make sure you keep your valuables close to you and make sure you can see your belongings at all times.”
