PEOPLE had the chance to get up close to vehicles and other kit used in the Second World War at a Bicester garden centre.

The event was staged by the Oxford branch of the Military Vehicle Trust, which brought along vehicles including a 1940 Norton motorbike and a 1943 Dodge ambulance.

Members also dressed in period uniforms giving visitors to Bicester Avenue, off Oxford Road, Bicester, an authentic flavour of the 1940s.

Mia Sage, eight, is pictured having a go on the motorbike at the event.

Chris Pledge, farm shop manager at Bicester Avenue Garden Centre – pictured right, with Mia’s dad Andrew, left, and motorbike owner Steve Arnold, back – said: “The group has visited the garden centre for the past two years and has always been very popular with visitors.

“Various vehicles used in World War Two from The North Oxfordshire & Cotswold’s Military Vehicle Club were at the event and the owners were available to talk about the history of each one.” Picture: Mark Bassett

Good to see kids being shown WWII items - pity they only had the motor bike and ambulance - I remember seeing both during the war. I am from Cowley and remember tanks going down Holloway (from Slade) and blokcing my ears! Also Cowley airfield - where I have vivid mental image of crane lifting up Tiger Moth plane and parts falling off of it! Guess it may have crashed on test flight? I'd like to have seen the Bicester display - but Tampa Florida is rather far!
