Witney councillors debate sports ground policy

CONTROVERSIAL plans to move sports facilities in Witney will be discussed by Witney Town Council tonight.

Councillor Chrissie Curry has proposed a motion saying that the council should "reaffirm its policy of pursuing the plans for expanding and providing state-of-the-art sports facilities for Witney with emphasis on its dedication to ensuring that all facilities will be Disability Discrimination Act-compliant."

The council has a policy of selling West Witney Sports Ground to fund new facilities across town, but a change in leadership at the authority has seen a new willingness to look again at the idea.

The council meeting at the Town Hall starts at 7pm.

Why can't more public use br made of school and college sport facilities and investment, rather than duplicating venues and under-using existing facilities? Where sport and recreation space may be at a premium, this would seem to make more sense - yes?
