Meetings on changes to planned Barton West scheme

Plans for the Barton West scheme are due to be discussed today and on Monday.

Last night Oxford city councillors debated a series of changes to the plan. The council had hoped to create an “urban boulevard” on the A40 Northern Bypass but this was scrapped after a public inquiry.

Planning inspector Dr Shelagh Bussey expressed concern about the council’s plans to lower the speed limit to 40mph and this, along with other elements of the Barton Area Action Plan, has been removed.

The plans will be debated at hearings by Dr Bussey today at 9am in Oxford Town Hall and Monday at 1pm in St Aldate’s Parish Centre, Pembroke Street.

So what did the city councillors conclude last night?

Would be useful to those with an interest in knowing where our councillors, whose council has a share in the development, stand.
