Oxford Brookes students get wrong pictures on ID card applications

NEW Students at Oxford Brookes University were perplexed to see another person’s picture waiting to go on their ID card.

Students are asked to upload a picture for their ID card and then to later check course details added by the university.

But a software error meant the wrong photograph appeared on about 100 students’ details.

Spokesman Edward Reed said: “The university is fully on top of dealing with this matter.

“When students enrol at Oxford Brookes University, they fill in their details online and this information forms the basis of their ID card. They also upload a photo.

“We had feedback from some that an incorrect picture appeared after they had uploaded their photo.

“This was due to a short-lived problem with the software used for uploading information which affects a maximum of 100 students.”

The university will begin enrolment next Wednesday and lessons will begin the following Wednesday.

Mr Reed said: “The semester has not started and no student ID cards have been printed out yet.

“We will start printing cards over the next few days and, for the students affected, will wait until they are at Brookes before printing.

“No incorrect ID cards have been printed or issued.”

So, by the headline "Students get wrong pictures on ID cards", you actually mean "incorrect photo appears on student details but no ID cards have the wrong photo"? Moreover, the students were asked to check their details, did so, and spotted the errors.

If you're going to go with a "sensationalist" headline, at least make it about something interesting!

As with cc.owleyroad, your headline says:

"Oxford Brookes students get wrong pictures on ID cards"

But no Oxford Brookes student have got an ID card.

This journalism thing is easy:
Write headline "Pigs Fly"
Interview farmer, confirm no pigs have flown
still put out story.

I'm pleased that you've changed the title of this story, but shouldn't you say that you've amended your story?

And, then. Does this count as a story at all?

This is a strong contender for the Oxford Mail's most boring story of 2012. Who cares?
