Transparent bus shelter could settle council's row with police

TOWN councillors in Wallingford are hoping they can still see eye-to-eye with the police over plans for a £5,000 bus shelter outside the police station.
The police have objected to the council’s proposal for the shelter at the bus stop in Reading Road because it could obstruct the view of officers driving to emergencies.
Town and county councillor Lynda Atkins said: “We don’t want to cause the police problems, but we don’t want passengers to be left standing in the rain.”
Sgt Martin Jubb, of Thames Valley Police, said: “We are concerned a bus shelter could impede the view of drivers leaving the police station
and fear this could affect vehicles attending emergencies.”
Town council leaders are now hoping the police will look more favourably on an application for a transparent shelter instead.
