Dragon fun for Olympic stars

Olympic rowing stars will take to the water again tomorrow at the town’s annual Dragon Boat Race.

Caroline O’Connor, above, who coxed the Women’s eight at Eton Dorney, will take part and she persuaded Olympic silver medallists Peter and Richard Chambers to join in the fun.

The trio will join 24 teams of rowers tomorrow as they set off from Abingdon Bridge and race down the 250-metre course.

Teams of 16 will take part in 40-foot long narrow boats, adorned with Chinese dragon heads, and row to the beat of a drummer at one end of the boat.

The event was originally scheduled for May but was called off due to bad weather. The Met Office forecast for tomorrow is sunny intervals, with top temperatures of around 23 degrees.

Fantastic that Abingdon has a chance to congratulate some of this summers Olympic heroes. I'm sure there'll be a huge crowd there to show our appreciation and also support a very worthy cause
