Burner plan backed

BICESTER: A controversial £275m incinerator near the town will go ahead.

In July, Buckinghamshire County Council awarded the contract for the plant at Greatmoor Farm in Calvert, just over the county border, to FCC Environment, formerly known as WRG.

Members of the council’s scrutiny committee yesterday decided not to refer the decision back to the cabinet for further consideration, which means the project will now go ahead.

There's a surprise. I guess they paid the right councillor the right amount of money. Saying that, this is Bucks CC. Nice to know it will have a detrimental effect on Bicester.

Local democracy is ill served by officers who are too keen to pander to commercial interests when they should be focusing on public benefits. How does the public benefit from the lack of proper scrutiny?
