Life's far from a drag on a charity fun day

MEN donned women’s clothing to eat as many chillis and hot dogs as they could – and raise money for good causes. Four teams taking part in the Abingdon Drag Race on Saturday made more than £2,600 for the Oxfordshire Stroke Association and Abingdon Mind.

The teams toured participating pubs in the town competing in games and tests, including chilli eating, football aunt sally and hotdog eating.

Meanwhile, on a stage in front of the Black Swan pub, teenagers battled it out in a talent contest to win an afternoon in a recording studio.

The event was organised in just five weeks by Gary Gill of Brookside, Abingdon, after he suffered a stroke earlier in the year.

He said: “It went really well. The teams said they had the best day out for ages and ages. Everybody is already asking what about next year?”

Barman James Gill, 23, pictured x from left, said: “It was a brilliant day. I am looking forward to next year already.”
