The water leak saga just ran and ran The water leak saga just ran and ran

More than two weeks ago Michael Dean was walking along his Abingdon street when he spotted water bubbling through a crack in the concrete.

He called Thames Water that night, not expecting an immediate reaction, but he did not think he would still be waiting for the leak in Oxford Road to be fixed two weeks later.

When he next went to take a look a few days later blue lines had been painted on the road, but the water was still running.

Mr Dean, pictured with his dog Sam, said: “I telephoned them after two weeks, and they told me it was all in hand.

“I said ‘there is about a gallon of water running out of there every 15 seconds’.

“A few months ago they were saying we couldn’t wash our cars with a hose because of the ban, now they are just throwing it away.”

When he rang Thames Water again they told him they sent someone to take a look at it and were trying to get permission to dig it up.

Mr Dean added: “To add insult to injury I received a text message from them asking ‘how happy were you with your service?’” A Thames Water spokesman said: “Our engineers are attending this leak. Every leak is important to us and we are really sorry for the length of time it has taken to get this fixed.” Picture: OX53905 Ric Mellis
