EVER wondered how to use fizzy drinks and mints to make a fountain?
Or how to create an explosion using just bicarbonate of soda and vinegar?
Youngsters at Science Oxford learned first-hand how to do a range of exciting experiments at three sold-out events at the museum in London Place, St Clement’s, this week.
More than 100 children packed in to find out what ‘science surprises’ staff had on offer.
Twenty experiments were selected by Science Oxford staff and children then picked out balls representing each one during the sessions, making each show different. Schools programme manager Natalie Ford said: “They seemed to enjoy it and it’s gone down well. Hopefully they will go home and try some of the less messy things out in the garden.”
She said the most popular experiment involved putting a stack of mints into a bottle of diet cola to create a fountain of cola – but admitted her favourite involved teaching youngsters to memorise 15 things by teaching them a “ridiculous” story to help remember it.
