RECYCLING centres in Oxfordshire now have places to drop off unwanted electrical items.
Waste chiefs have installed 28 recycling banks for small electrical items such as kettles, toasters and mobile phones.
The scheme – run with Electrolink – sees items broken up and plastic and metals recycled.
Oxford City Council executive member John Tanner, welcomed the scheme.
He said: “It is important we keep electrical stuff out of landfill, and at present Oxford residents can’t use their blue bin to recycle electrical equipment.”
In Oxford, the banks are in Cardigan Street, Jericho; Ferry Hinksey Road; Ferry Leisure Centre; Friars Wharf, Sainsbury’s at Heyford Hill; St Clement’s Street Car Park; Tesco’s in Cowley and Cowley Road, and Waitrose, Headington.
In West Oxfordshire, they are in Guildenford car park, Burford; the Co-op and Stanmore Crescent in Carterton; Marsh Lane car park, Clanfield; Aston Rd car park, Ducklington; Edington Square, Witney; Sainsbury's , Witney; Woodford Way, Witney; Back Lane car park, Eynsham; Hensington Rd, Woodstock.
They are also at Thame’s Cattlemarket car park; Wallingford’s Goldsmiths Lane car park; Kings Road, Henley; Sainsbury’s, Wantage; Peachcroft Shopping centre, Abingdon, and Gloucester Street car park, Faringdon.
