A HOUSE can be built on land behind a house in Windmill Road in Headington, a planning inspector has ruled.

The single-storey home was turned down by Oxford City Council in October citing noise and disturbance for residents of the existing house at 42 Windmill Road.

Particular concerns were raised about the movement of refuse bins and bicycles.

But planning inspector Martin Seddon overturned the council’s decision earlier this month.

In his decision he said: “Any increase in noise and disturbance for the occupants of 42 Windmill Road from the use of the proposed pedestrian access would be insignificant, compared to the background levels.

“The proposal would increase the choice of housing in this sustainable location.”

The applicant is Miss P Watkins and in her application she said her proposals would make the “best use of the land”.
