AN OXFORD-based asylum charity is hosting a film screening to raise awareness of the plight of refugees.
Asylum Welcome, which has offices in Magdalen Road, has organised the event as part of Refugee Week next week.
The showing of Welcome, by Phillippe Lioret, will take place at the Ultimate Picture Palace cinema in Jeune Street on Monday, at 6.30pm. It tells the story of immigrants trapped at Calais.
Charity director Saeeda Imaan hopes the film will highlight the problems facing refugees.
Asylum Welcome is working with Refugee Resource, which is also based in Oxford, to organise events over Refugee Week.
Amanda Webb-Johnson, director of Refugee Resource, said changes in the law meant asylum seekers are increasingly ineligible for government help.
She said: βAn increasing number of our clients are extremely hungry and looking emaciated.β
