Banbury is getting ready for a right Royal knees-up after plans were revealed for next month’s Jubilee celebrations.

A host of street parties, including one which organisers hope will smash UK records, will honour The Queen’s 60 years on the throne.

Banbury Town Council hopes the Sunday, June 3, party in Market Place for 1,000 youngsters will be the biggest of its kind.

The event, for three- to 11-year-olds, will feature rides, food, balloons and face painting from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Hook Norton Brass Band will also play.

Band musical director Jenny Barrie said: “We will be playing all sorts of music to make the party go with a swing. We are really pleased to be asked and be part of it.”

On Monday, June 4, a beacon will be lit at Spiceball Park, at 10.15pm as part of a UK event.

Tickets, designed to look like a 1950s ration book, right, are available from Banbury Town Hall in Bridge Street or by calling 01295 250340.
