A HOMELESS charity and a college have joined forces to create job opportunities for young and unemployed people.
Aspire Oxford and Abingdon & Witney College have launched the Get Involved Pledge which urges businesses to consider creating work placements, apprenticeships and workshops for jobseekers.
Several major employers such as safety equipment manufacturers JSP at Minster Lovell have already signed up to the scheme which can also involve providing a business coach for an individual wanting to start their own business.
JSP chief executive Mark Johnstone said: “Meeting with the college has been a great step forward for us as a business, and we now want to work with them to put in place NVQ and apprenticeship programmes.
“In future we will contact the college with any job vacancies we have as a matter of course.”
Dennis Carey, head of business development at Abingdon & Witney College, said: “We’ve had great support from business already and it’d be fantastic if more local firms came forward.”
